Privacy Policy
Last updated October 1, 2026
We care about kids, math, and privacy. Hopper Ed is a free math practice website for children. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and what choices parents have.
1. Who We Are
Hopper Ed is operated by Hopper Ed LLC.
- Contact: Alyssa Herbert
- Email: support@hoppered.com
- Mailing address: 8401 Mayland Dr, Ste A, Richmond, VA 23294, USA
You can reach us at any of these with questions about this policy or your child's information.
2. Who Can Create an Account
Only adults (18 or older) living in the United States can create accounts. There are two kinds:
- Parent or guardian accounts, which can add child accounts
- Teacher accounts, which can add student accounts for use in class
Children do not sign up themselves. Kids can also play as guests without an account.
When a teacher creates student accounts, the teacher agrees on behalf of their school that Hopper Ed may collect the information below for educational use only.
3. Information We Collect
From parents and teachers:
- Email address
- Password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form; we can't read it)
- Whether you are a parent or a teacher
- A record that you agreed to this policy (the date and which version)
- An optional private nickname for each child, which only you see on your dashboard
- The email address of any other adult you choose to share a child's account with
- The settings you choose for your child (starting grade, which games are allowed, which friends they can play with)
From children while they use Hopper Ed:
- A username we generate for them (children can pick another one from our list, but cannot type their own)
- A password (stored hashed)
- An avatar picked from our set of pictures (never a photo)
- Their answers to math problems, whether each answer was right, and how long it took
- Game progress, levels, and scores
- Our estimate of their skill in each math area, used to pick the next problem
- Board-game moves with friends their parent has approved
- A note when they report that a problem looks wrong
From guests:
- The same game and answer information as above, saved under an anonymous guest ID with no name, email, or password
Automatically, from every visitor:
- A login token, stored in a cookie and in your browser's local storage, so you stay signed in
- Small settings saved in your browser, such as whether sound is on
- Error reports when something breaks: the screen, the error message, and the browser type
- Our web server's logs: IP address, browser type, and the pages requested
We do not collect:
- Children's real names
- Birthdates
- Photos, audio, or video
- Precise location
- Payment information
There are no ads, no ad trackers, no analytics services, and no social media buttons on Hopper Ed. Children cannot chat or send free-text messages to each other.
4. How We Use Information
We use information only to:
- Let you and your child sign in
- Save your child's progress and choose problems at the right level
- Show you your child's progress on your dashboard
- Let children play board games with friends their parent approved
- Send account emails (sign-up links, password resets, and the notice describing your child's data)
- Fix bugs, improve our math problems, and keep the site secure
We never use children's information for advertising, and we never sell it.
5. Who Else Sees Information
We share information only with the companies that help us run the site, and only so they can provide that service:
- Amazon Web Services hosts our website and database, in the United States. The data is encrypted on their disks.
- Resend sends our emails. It receives the email address and the content of each email, which can include your child's nickname and username.
These companies are not allowed to use the information for anything else. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect a child's safety.
As a parent, you can agree to us collecting your child's information without agreeing to share it with anyone else. We don't share it with anyone beyond the service providers above.
6. How Long We Keep Information
- A child's account: until a parent deletes it, or 2 years after the child last played. We email the parent a month before deleting an inactive account; the child can keep it by signing in and playing once.
- Guest progress: 30 days after the guest last played
- Login sessions: deleted when they expire
- Error reports: 30 days
- Board games with no moves: 30 days
- Web server logs: 14 days
- Backup copies of our database: 3 days
When we delete an inactive or guest account, we keep the answers to math problems with nothing that links them to the child (no account, username, or nickname), so we can learn which problems are too hard or too easy. When you delete your child's account yourself, we delete their answers too.
Reports that a problem looks wrong are kept so we can fix the problem, but they are no longer linked to the child once the child's account is deleted.
7. Your Choices and Rights
As a parent, you can at any time:
- See your child's progress on your dashboard
- Ask us for a copy of everything we've stored about your child
- Delete your child's account, from your dashboard or by emailing us
- Delete your own account, which also deletes your children's accounts
- Tell us to stop collecting information from your child. We do this by deleting the child's account.
To do any of this by email, write to support@hoppered.com from the email address on your account.
8. How We Protect Information
- All traffic to Hopper Ed is encrypted (HTTPS)
- Our database is encrypted where it's stored and can't be reached from the internet
- Passwords are stored only in hashed form
- Only Hopper Ed's operator can access the database
9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Hopper Ed is directed to children and follows the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect information from a child only after a parent (or, for classroom accounts, a teacher on behalf of a school) has created the child's account and agreed to this policy. Guests play without giving any personal information.
10. Outside the United States
Hopper Ed is intended for use only in the United States. If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, please do not use this site. We do not knowingly collect information from EU or UK residents.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we collect or share children's information, we'll email parents first and ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
